The board is the part a company cannot buy. Here is exactly what it does, what it does not do, and how a product is reviewed.
How a board is made up
Devices, biologics, injectables and toxins each get their own panel, because the questions are not the same and neither are the people qualified to answer them. Every seat is a practising clinician, not a consultant to the category they review.
Each board publishes the criteria it scores against before it scores anything, so a company knows the test in advance and a provider can see what a number was made of.
- Evidence What has actually been published or measured, and how well it matches the way the product is used.
- Results What the board’s own members see in their practices, described in their own names.
- Economics What it costs to run, per treatment and per year, against what a practice can charge.
- Support Training, service, consumables and what happens when something breaks.
Four criteria, five points each, twenty in total. Every score is published with its breakdown rather than as a single number, because a device can be strong on results and expensive to run, and a provider deserves to see which is which.
What the board controls, and what it does not
- The board decides which companies are reviewed, what the criteria are, what the scores are, and whether to decline a company that wants to pay.
- The company decides what it publishes: catalogues, courses, demonstrations, protocol sheets, downloadable assets and its own sessions.
- The provider decides what they write and which of their own images they share, and can withdraw either.
Company material and board judgment are stored separately and rendered separately, and every screen tells a provider which of the two they are reading. Sponsorship buys a place to teach. It does not buy a score, and there is no code path that would let it.
Where this stands today
The first category boards are being seated now. Until a panel is seated, every score and every board member shown in the app is marked as a placeholder inside the app itself, on purpose. We would rather show a real product with honest gaps than a polished screenshot of something that does not exist yet.
